👉 Hungría: este par de rieles no es lo que piensas

The train moves slowly over the Hungarian plain. It comes from Baja, from Kiskunfélegyháza, from those villages where the stations look more like domestic courtyards than transit terminals. Outside, the sky is low. The clouds, heavy with a uniform gray, follow the train as if they were part of the convoy. A weak, persistent drizzle fogs the edges of the window. Everything seems quieter than usual. In this suspended atmosphere, Szeged appears. Arriving in the city of the sun—as it is usually called—on a cloudy day may seem like a contradiction. But in reality, the gray sky suits it well. The diffused light reveals other nuances: the red bricks darken, the linden trees smell more intense, and the wet sidewalks reflect the church towers with a clarity not seen on clear days. Szeged, in the drizzle, becomes more intimate, less extroverted, but perhaps more authentic. The central station, elegant and restrained, welcomes travelers more as a pause than a welcome. People get off with light coats and borrowed umbrellas. No one runs. One walks in silence, with that familiarity that rain brings when it's light and persistent, as if everyone shares a momentary secret. From there, the tram cuts through the wet landscape to the historic center, where the wide streets seem made to withstand any weather. Szeged in the rain becomes a city of interiors. Cafes smell of hot chocolate, bookstores with dim lamps, museum halls that seem larger with fewer visitors. The cafes around Dóm Square, usually bustling, fill with soft voices and fogged-up windows. The square itself, imposing even without sun, empties of tourists and becomes melancholic. It's easy to sit on one of its chestnut-covered benches and listen to the faint sound of the drizzle on the leaves and the stone. But even so, Szeged hasn't lost its hospitality. The central market is still alive, the tram continues to ring with its brief bell, and students continue to cross on bicycles in the drizzle. There's a modest beauty in this Hungarian south when the weather isn't as good as expected. It's a different way of being, more reserved, less photogenic, but deeply sentimental. On the trains arriving from Békéscsaba or departing for Szolnok, the rhythm is the same: people getting on and off with closed umbrellas, damp seats by the windows, conversations muffled by the sound of rain on the car roof. Train travel in this region doesn't need sun to make sense. In fact, the cloudy weather forces you to look more closely, to notice the details that are often lost in the bright light: the handwritten signs, the embroidered curtains, the steam on the glass. Szeged, on these gray days, is no less beautiful. It's more contemplative. One doesn't arrive to see, but to stay a little still. To understand that cities also have internal seasons. And that not every warm place needs a blue sky to show its character. Here, under the light rain, the south reveals itself not as a postcard, but as a refuge. As we leave, when the train moves again and the wet trees recede outside the window, we take with us another image of Hungary. A slower, wetter, closer image. And Szeged remains behind, like one of those stations that are not forgotten, not because of what is seen, but because of what is felt inside. #openyourwindowtotheworld #TravelIsHypersurvival 🌎 Subtitles in Portuguese, Italian, German, French, Russian, and English.
