Kit Crashing S2 E01: Grading Hillside Vail

In the first episode of the season, we explore how modeling landscape grading with Land Kit and Grasshopper in Rhino can help on a challenging residential project in Colorado with steep slopes and multiple elevation connections. We start by importing the CAD survey info, making it into a live topo surface, then adding and refining walls and breaklines to patch in the proposed topography changes. We discuss the power of iteration in 3D with realtime updates. We also generate elevation, slope, and water flow analysis along with customized legends. Ishaan learns about working more fluidly in 3D rather than the 2D grind of plans and section drafting. 00:00 Episode (and Season 2) Kickoff and Goals 01:58 Project Background and Challenge 06:37 Traditional CAD design workflow issues 09:02 Rhino Setup and Importing a Survey 15:23 Live Topo using a Geo Set 20:02 Elevation and slope analysis 27:46 Proposed Grading Interventions 42:03 Creating Walls and Stairs 01:06:28 Selective Smoothing 01:10:35 Water Flow and Site Insights 01:12:23 Sloping This Way and That 01:15:37 Preview Adjustments 01:22:10 Inspiring Ideas and Next Episodes Links Demo Files from the Episode: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/saij3e...
