Aspley Guise Level Crossing, Bedfordshire

Date filmed: Tuesday the 12th of May 2026 Route: Marston Vale Line Aspley Guise (APG) Station Crossing type: Manually Controlled Barrier crossing with CCTV (MCB-CCTV) Filming location: Salford Road, Aspley Guise (MK17 8HZ) A level crossing in between the trailing, staggered platforms of Aspley Guise Station on the Marston Vale Line. It is the most westerly of the level crossings which fall within Bedfordshire, and was only the second on the line to receive LED wigwags at the end of 2019 / start of 2020. However, the flasher relay here is absolutely fried as can be seen by the behaviour of the reds' flashing sequence starting up and throughout. The crossing still retains some charm, though, and the quiet (enough to be able to get away with the less-than-ideal standing position in a bush for the first shot), pleasant location perfectly captures the spirit of the Marston Vale Line, even if not as well as before. One barrier appears to have a fluid leak, as it constantly had to be corrected to prevent it falling on a car. This kind-of shows their age now, as everything that isn't the wigwags is practically original from 2004.
