Every morning, before you even open your eyes, there's a voice inside you that has already decided what kind of day it will be. It lists past failures, anticipates future problems, and turns down your internal volume just when you want to turn it up. The most common reaction, the one we've always been taught, is to try to silence it, distract yourself, or cover it up with a "positive thought." In this video, I'll show you why this emergency room approach doesn't work in the long run and, in fact, ends up fueling and giving even more energy to that same critical voice. That constant pessimism isn't a flaw in your mind, but the incessant work of a part of you stuck in the past: a scared child who, in its own way, is just trying to protect you from pain and shame. To begin working on these dynamics, you can ask yourself two questions: 1) What are the specific words your critical voice repeats most often? Write them down below. Taking them out of your head and objectifying them on the page is the first step to disempowering them. 2) If you ask, how old does this voice look? Is it the voice of an adult or that of a child?
