Flooded Twice Daily - Paraty, Brazil

The historic streets of Paraty are flooded by the sea twice a day during high tide, a centuries-old feature that once helped wash away dirt and waste from the town centre. Located on Brazil's tropical Costa Verde between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Paraty enjoys a warm climate with frequent rain showers but also plenty of sunshine throughout the year, creating the lush green scenery that surrounds the town. Its cobbled streets, whitewashed colonial buildings and mountainous backdrop make it one of Brazil's most picturesque destinations. Own images – free for non-commercial use.
