From Phou Khoun to Phathang - Laos

Perched high in the mountains of central Laos, Phou Khoun is a Hmong town sitting at around 1,400 metres above sea level at the important junction of the roads to Phonsavan, Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang. Most travellers simply pass through on their way to or from the Plain of Jars, rarely stopping to appreciate the spectacular scenery. The road descending from Phou Khoun towards the lowlands offers dramatic views of Pha Tiao, one of the most iconic and recognizable mountains in Laos, before continuing through rolling hills with distant views of mountain ranges stretching across the plain. Another famous landmark along this route is the striking limestone hill at Phathang, a small village on the road towards Vang Vieng, surrounded by some of the country's most beautiful landscapes.
