Good evening. I'm Takahiro Haga, a psychiatrist. Today, I'd like to discuss with you what direction I should take my content creation as a psychiatrist YouTuber. There are many different types of psychiatrist YouTubers. While each has its own style of content creation, I believe that, at the very least, as a doctor, content that strongly promotes personal gain is undesirable. For example, while accepting sponsored content isn't inherently bad, selling expensive products or essentially extorting money from viewers is not appropriate for a doctor's content creation. Except for elective procedures like cosmetic medicine, medical practice is largely supported by national health insurance and social insurance. In other words, it's a job supported by public funds in a broad sense. Considering this, a certain degree of public benefit is expected of doctors. An attitude that contributes to the welfare of the entire nation is necessary. Of course, there's nothing inherently wrong with content leading to work opportunities or generating income. However, if the focus of content shifts from "helping people" to "making money for oneself," I believe it deviates from what one should be doing as a doctor. Another important point is to avoid spreading medically incorrect information. It's important to clearly distinguish between "talking about things that are not yet medically understood" and "saying something that contradicts what is medically known." It's fine to say, "This is what I think," or "This is what I do in clinical practice," regarding areas where medical answers haven't yet been found. However, it's problematic to definitively state something that contradicts what is already medically established. As far as I know, among the popular psychiatrist YouTubers, I don't think any are spreading clearly medically incorrect information. They all seem to be communicating in their own style, while maintaining a strong medical foundation. The question then becomes, what kind of information should you share? The safest approach is to simply turn what's written in textbooks into videos. Think of it like e-learning videos. Even we doctors sometimes take online lectures to renew our specialist certifications. These are typically 30-minute lectures where you watch a short video and answer a few simple questions at the end to earn credits. Similar e-learning methods are frequently used in corporate training programs. In e-learning videos, the basic principle is to accurately present information found in textbooks. It's safe and less susceptible to criticism. Because the content is based on textbooks, medical errors are less likely. It's very useful for medical students, nursing students, and resident physicians—anyone who needs to learn textbook-based knowledge. I myself previously worked as an instructor at a preparatory school for the national medical licensing exam. It wasn't a preparatory school for getting into medical school, but one for passing the national medical licensing exam. There, I conducted group classes and individual tutoring for medical students, and created lecture videos in the field of internal medicine. I used PowerPoint to lecture on various areas of internal medicine, such as infectious diseases, respiratory medicine, circulatory medicine, and gastroenterology. However, to be honest, simply presenting information directly from textbooks isn't very interesting from a creator's perspective. Of course, it's useful. But the joy of being a content creator isn't limited to just that. What I find interesting about doing YouTube is that I can talk about things that haven't been fully answered medically yet, based on my own clinical experience. For example, there's textbook knowledge that there's evidence for drug therapy for depression, and that there's a certain amount of evidence for cognitive behavioral therapy. If you deny that and say, "Antidepressants don't work," or "Cognitive behavioral therapy is meaningless," that's misinformation. On the other hand, when a patient with depression comes in for their first consultation, how do you listen to them, how do you make them feel at ease, and how do you build a therapeutic alliance? There aren't clear answers in textbooks for these things. It's where each clinician's experience and ingenuity come into play. I think it's very meaningful to talk about "this is how I do it" in these areas. Because it reflects the differences between creators and the actual atmosphere of clinical practice. I suspect that many doctors who create videos on YouTube aren't simply enduring hardship to make videos because they want to help society. First and foremost, they want to talk about things they find interesting and important. Furthermore, I think the feeling is that it would be wonderful if it could be of help to someone. I feel the same way. I want to share with everyone what I feel is important in clinical practice and the things I've come up with on my ...
