#34: Anécdotas del exrector Gabriel Macaya / Los nombres detrás de los edificios: Abelardo Bonilla

We present the final chapter of the "Anecdotes from Former Rectors" series. In this third installment, we'll hear from Gabriel Macaya Trejos, who served as rector of the University of Costa Rica (UCR) from 1996 to 2004. He led the protests against the ICE (Costa Rican Electricity Institute) "Combo" in March 2000, confronted the government on the same issue, and overcame challenges such as the digitization of the UCR, negotiations for the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and others that we'll hear about. And in the other series, "The Name Behind the Buildings," we'll learn about the life of Abelardo Bonilla Baldares, after whom the auditorium of the Faculty of General Studies was named. Behind him hides a man who participated in the drafting of the Political Constitution of 1949. He was a deputy, vice president of Costa Rica between 1958 and 1962, and even served as interim president of the country for a month in 1961. Later he was declared a Benefactor of the Nation and the UCR recognizes him as one of its pioneers.
