THE NEW “FAITH” • Fundamental Belief -- Truth is internal, not external. • New “Rules” of Life 1. You have to be true to yourself. 2. In the end you have to do what makes you happy. 3. No one has the right to tell anyone else what is right or wrong for him or her. 4. You are free to live any way you want as long as you are not harming anyone else. • New Spiritual “Rules” of Life 1. There are no moral absolutes. 2. People are supposed to be good to each other. 3. God places very limited demands on people. 4. God allows “good people” into Heaven. ESTABLISHING A RESILIENT FAITH 1. Don’t be afraid -- God is with us. 2. We must deconstruct the current “rules” of life as we construct a Biblical mindset. 3. We must decide if we are going to live over the Bible or under the Bible. 4. We must decide whether Jesus really is the exclusive means of salvation. 5. We must decide whether church is the community where my faith is formed or the optional accessory to my individual spiritual journey. 6. We must choose to be a faithful presence within the culture. • Fight it – Defensive posture / removal from it • Float with it – Relevant to the point of compromise • Faithful in it – Redeeming influence in every part 7.
