#Faith #ChristianLife #Bible PRACTICES TO BUILD A RESILIENT FAITH – Part 1 Building a Resilient Faith September 26, 2021 – TIM LUNDY – Selected Passages CHARACTERISTICS OF A RESILIENT DISCIPLE • Attend and engage with their church • Trust firmly in the authority of the Bible • Committed to Jesus personally and affirm the Gospel • Express desire to transform the broader society as an outcome of their faith PRACTICE 1 • Experience a relationship with Jesus that is marked by authenticity, intimacy, and challenge. • AUTHENTIC – Impossible without encountering and embracing the Gospel. Romans 1:16 -- For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Romans 12:2 – Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. • INTIMACY – Ongoing actual relationship with Jesus. • CHALLENGE – The call of Christ to radically follow Him. PRACTICE 2 • Recognize the complexity and challenges of our age. • Intentionally engage in deconstructing the thinking of the current age. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 – For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ. • Learn how to anchor your life in the truth of the Bible and walk in wisdom. • Parents engaging their children in regular, normal conversation about faith is absolutely crucial to the development of resilient faith. Deuteronomy 6:4-7 – Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
