Cherry Blossom Picnic at Goryokaku Park | A Slow Spring Day in Hakodate | Japan Road Trip

We spend our final day in Hakodate with seafood, local sweets, and a relaxing hanami picnic at Goryokaku Park. After a light breakfast at the campsite, we visit Hakodate Morning Market for a fresh seafood bowl, walk around the Bay Area for some last-minute shopping, and pick up local food before returning to Goryokaku one last time. #Hokkaido #Hakodate #CherryBlossoms ⏱ Chapters 00:00 Episode Highlights 00:49 Leaving the Campsite 00:56 Light Breakfast at the Campsite 01:19 Snaffle’s vs Petite Merveille 04:57 Heading to Hakodate Morning Market 05:22 Arriving at Hakodate Morning Market 05:36 Squid Fishing at the Market 06:59 Choosing a Seafood Bowl 07:17 Fresh Seafood Bowl Breakfast 11:37 Market Walk After Breakfast 13:56 Crab Miso Ramen? 14:45 Squid Fishing Line 15:42 Hokkaido Seafood Markets 16:32 Shiroi Koibito Hakodate Bay Museum 16:38 Shopping for Hanami Food 17:18 Bay Area Walk 17:42 Hakodate Carl Raymon 18:30 Getting Sausages and Bacon 18:51 Heading to Goryokaku Park 19:02 Back to Goryokaku 19:30 Hanami Picnic Begins 20:06 Carl Raymon Hot Dogs Under Sakura 22:19 Dessert Time 23:28 Petite Merveille Squid Ink Cheesecake 25:18 Sakura Mochi Under the Cherry Blossoms 26:00 Walking Around Goryokaku 26:39 Flower Petals on the Water 27:07 Walking Up the Hill 27:59 Sakura Petals Everywhere 29:39 Leaving Hakodate 29:59 Final Message 🌸 Description This is the fifth and final episode of our Spring Road Trip through Southern Hokkaido. On our last morning in Hakodate, we start the day at the campsite with two famous local sweets: Snaffle’s and Petite Merveille. Both are soft, creamy cheesecake-style sweets from Hakodate, so we decided to compare them side by side before heading into the city. Our next stop is Hakodate Morning Market. We walk around the market, see the famous squid fishing area, and enjoy a fresh seafood bowl for breakfast. The bowl is full of Hokkaido seafood like ikura, crab, scallop, tuna, and uni. It was definitely not a cheap breakfast, but it felt like a perfect way to enjoy Hakodate one last time. After breakfast, we walk around the Bay Area for some final shopping. We stop by Shiroi Koibito Hakodate Bay Museum, but the item we wanted was already sold out. So we continue looking for something else to bring to our hanami picnic. Then we visit Hakodate Carl Raymon, a historic ham and sausage shop in the Motomachi area. We buy hot dogs, sausage, and bacon to enjoy later under the cherry blossoms. Finally, we return to Goryokaku Park. This time, the atmosphere is completely different from our first visit. The cherry blossoms are still beautiful, but the petals are starting to fall in the wind. People are relaxing under the sakura, having picnics and BBQ, and the whole park feels warm and peaceful. We find a spot under the trees and enjoy our hanami picnic with Carl Raymon hot dogs, local sweets, squid ink cheesecake from Petite Merveille, and sakura mochi. It was simple, relaxing, and exactly the kind of spring day we wanted in Hakodate. After eating, we take one last walk around Goryokaku. The sakura petals floating on the water and covering the ground made the park feel even more beautiful. This short road trip took us from Sapporo to Hakodate, Kikonai, Matsumae, and back to Goryokaku. We enjoyed cherry blossoms, local food, onsen, night views, campervan life, and many small discoveries along the way. Thank you for watching our Spring Southern Hokkaido Road Trip.
