Working conditions of women in small scale mining

A new report shows that women suffer abuse and discrimination within small-scale mining. Wits University and Action Aid South Africa issued a report titled, Understanding the role and participation of Women in artisanal mining. It focuses on the role of women in mining. In May 2019, Suzan Makgareetsa died in one of the mines in Burgersfort, Limpopo. Her death has since drawn attention to the conditions women zama zamas are exposed to.
