Have you been wanting to deal with your anxiety but you just don't know where to begin? Today, I explain the steps to stop letting your life be dictated by anxiety. The step-by-step plan is applicable for pretty much all anxieties but I take my ranked anxiety as an example. Tip: If you find that you do need more help facing your anxiety or you're struggling with the steps below, then try to find a specialized therapist in your area who can support you on a more personal level! Simple Steps to Start Exposure Therapy for Ranked Anxiety 1. Create an exposure hierarchy Write down ranked situations that make you anxious and rate them from 0–100. Examples: • Queueing up = 30 • Playing off-role = 70 • Playing midlane = 85 This becomes your personal “practice ladder.” 2. Identify your safety behaviors Notice what you do to artificially reduce anxiety. Examples: • Only playing comfort picks • Using humor to avoid pressure • Muting chat 3. Test a specific fear Create a clear hypothesis before queueing. Example: “My anxiety will make me completely useless.” Define exactly what “useless” means: • dying 15+ times, • getting flamed by teammates, • missing important plays, etc. Then choose: • a situation from your exposure hierarchy, • which safety behaviors you will or won’t use. Aim for an anxiety level around 70–80 — challenging, but manageable. 4. Evaluate the results honestly After the game, ask: • What actually happened? • What evidence supported my fear? • What evidence went against it? Important! Keep experimenting. One game is never enough to draw conclusions.
