Give me your Hand - A popular traditional Irish air played on violin in a 13th century Dorset church

Give me your Hand is a beautiful and haunting piece of traditional Irish music, played here by violinist/fiddler Matt Tarling. Alex Stone (cameras & co. director) has intertwined imagery of both the church and the surrounding hamlet of Winterborne Monkton to create a wistfully romantic story to accompany this beautiful piece of traditional Irish music. The 13th century church of St Simon & St Jude, was built by master Norman craftsmen in the 1200s. The natural acoustics combined with its peaceful rural location provide the perfect setting for the rich and clear sound of Matt's pre 1750 violin to reverberate fully throughout its space. "This 17th century Irish air is one of the most widely recorded pieces of Irish traditional music. It was supposedly written by Rory Dall O'Cahan, a blind harpist from County Derry NI. The tune is said to have been inspired by an incident in which O'Cahan was asked to play for King James VI of Scotland. The king was so impressed by O'Cahan's performance that he awarded him a pension."
