Are You Playing The Correct Golf Shaft? & How Far Do You Hit Your 7-Iron?

Are you playing the correct golf shaft? How to know if you are playing the correct golf shaft? When club fitting we are looking at how fast your club speed is as a baseline to know what shaft flex you fit into. This video is based on iron distances, specifically the 7-iron. Back in the day well before club fitting and launch monitors took off we would use the distance you hit your 7-iron as a baseline to figure out golf shaft and what's impressive is those guidelines have not changed. Guideline: If your club speed is below 60 mph you are going to want the lightest most flexible shaft you can find, this would be an ultra light or ladies flex. If your club speed is between 60-70 mph you are going to want a light flex (senior) golf shaft. If your club speed is between 70-80 mph you are going to want a regular flex golf shaft. If your club speed is between 80-90 mph you are going to want a stiff flex golf shaft. If your club speed is over 90 mph you are going to want an extra stiff golf shaft. It is important to note, not all golf shafts are created equal and not every golfer has a similar swing tempo so it's still most important to get club fit and work through your options. You may end up with a stiffer or more flexible golf shaft based on other items that show up. Generally what we see is a golfer that swings certain club speeds will result in different distances with their irons and this is very interesting with a traditional lofted 7-iron: Under 60 mph = 110 yards 60-70 mph = 130 yards 70-80 mph = 150 yards 80-90 mph = 170 yards Over 90 mph = 190 yards
