The theme of the May 9th broadcast is "Release of the Japanese Crested Ibis." The Japanese crested ibis, a national special natural monument, is a precious bird that was once extinct in the wild in Japan. It also has a deep connection to Ishikawa Prefecture, which was once the last habitat of the Japanese crested ibis on Honshu. The program will introduce the prefecture's efforts in preparation for the release of the ibis in Noto on May 31st. At the Ishikawa Zoo's Toki Satoyama Hall, we'll learn about the surprisingly little-known ecology of the Japanese crested ibis. The Prefectural Library is currently holding a special exhibition in conjunction with the release. Books, including an Edo-period bird encyclopedia, will stimulate your curiosity about the ibis. Ms. Kosaka transforms into an ibis!? Furthermore, we'll visit a meeting to exchange ideas with children from Noto who are presenting their ideas for coexistence. We'll also visit rice paddies where the environment has been prepared to serve as a feeding ground for the ibises after the release, and introduce the rice farming certification system. The "Ishikawa Study Now" segment will visit Hamatsu High School in Hakui City, where they created the Toki Karuta (Japanese playing cards)!
