Talking about RCI and being a licensed psychologist: Here’s the thing: the psychology field in India has multiple pathways. But students are rarely given clarity about: who needs licensing, who can practice in what capacity, what different titles legally mean, and how the field is evolving.” “RCI becomes very important for legally recognized clinical psychology practice, especially diagnosis, assessments, hospital settings, and protected clinical roles. But the broader counselling and emotional wellbeing space in India is more complex and less uniformly regulated.” counselling psychologists operate broadly within: the larger mental healthcare ecosystem, ethical frameworks, institutional policies, and the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 mental health framework. The Mental Healthcare Act 2017 recognizes mental healthcare services and mental health professionals, but RCI specifically regulates the “Clinical Psychologist” category.
