XR Data Privacy is in the Eye of the Beholder Virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (XR) devices are becoming increasingly ubiquitous and support applications in entertainment, productivity, and training. With the availability of these devices also comes an increased risk to privacy through the capture and use of data from integrated sensors necessary to support these applications. This talk will focus on two main risks, the risks introduced to nearby bystanders as well as risks to user privacy from integrated eye-tracking sensors. My work explores the design of privacy-preserving interfaces to protect these data streams directly and to identify methods for increasing privacy awareness of XR users for new emerging technologies, such as eye tracking.
