Hungary: Train to Nowhere

After days of waiting outside Keleti train station in central Budapest, authorities finally opened the train platforms to refugees. Many rushed to the ready trains, fighting for places, hoping to be able to proceed to Germany and Austria. But hopes were dashed when the trains were diverted to Hungarian refugee camps where passengers refused to get off the train, leading to a stand-off with police. “If people have been misled in terms of where the trains are going that would be a terrible thing. Information has been one of the main problems so far and it has to be addressed.
