The Only Vlog You Need for Tbilisi, Georgia | S10E6 — The Global Football Episode

The Dinamo Derby: Part One. This Global Football Episode begins in Kote Marjanishvili Square, before we take the scenic route down David Agmashenebeli Avenue on a mission to scout the club shop, work out the ticket situation, and build properly toward matchday at Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena. The walk itself is part of the experience, but once we reach the stadium, the mission gets interesting. The club shop is open and welcoming, but tickets are elusive — and so is some of the matchday merchandise. Then, as so often happens in Georgia, the people lift the story. A wonderful local lady steps in with warmth, generosity, and positive energy, helping provide a fabulous scarf, an “I Love Georgia” keyring, and a memorable human moment that says just as much about this country as the football itself. There is even talk of Merab Dvalishvili, a fighter I am a big fan of, which only adds to the character of the encounter. As we discover, tickets can be bought online at abilet.ge, and can also be purchased on matchday at the ticket office. And when matchday comes, the Dinamo Derby delivers. The crowd may not be at full capacity, but the atmosphere is electric. In an outstanding stadium that would be incredible to see completely full one day, this felt like an intimate but high-level football experience — almost like a private screening of a big match. Two strong teams, one proud fixture, and a contest worthy of the Dinamo name. This episode is called Part One for a reason. In Series 11 — The Only Vlog You Need for Batumi, Georgia, we will see the reverse fixture and continue the battle from the other side. So while this match ends here, the derby itself rolls on. If you are in Georgia — and especially if you are in Tbilisi — I highly recommend coming down to the stadium for a match. Great people, halftime hot dogs, a brilliant arena, and football worthy of a crowd a hundred times larger. Tbilisi gave me a fantastic matchday experience, and I would gladly return for another one in the future.
