In this video, I chat with some of the first skaters who started the skate community in Monterrey in the 80s. They told me how they began without shops, without brands, getting boards however they could, and forming the first crews that even functioned as skate "teams" or gangs, like Skatevamps, Team Batbam, and The Spiders. They also talk about what the scene was like back then, how skateboarding evolved in the city, and why many ended up quitting.
