We climbed Mt. Sanageyama, a beloved mountain in Aichi Prefecture. It's apparently a very popular mountain, with the most climbers in the Tokai region. On the day we climbed, there were many hikers enjoying the climb. We started our ascent of Mt. Sanageyama from Unkoji Temple. This mountain was originally called Mt. Washitori, but it came to be called "Mt. Sanageyama" after Emperor Keiko's pet monkey took up residence there. This monkey is said to have accompanied Emperor Yamato Takeru on his pacification of the eastern provinces. He must have been a super monkey, like Son Goku. We climbed the Yamazakura Trail. There are ups and downs, but it's a trail that allows you to enjoy the climb while you're climbing. As we approached the summit, we could hear the sounds of lively voices.
