At the end of 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture announced the National Plan for Individual Identification of Cattle and Buffalo (PNIB). The initiative aims to implement an individual identification system for cattle and buffalo, expedite investigations, and increase response capacity in sanitary emergencies. An example is the monitoring of the withdrawal of the foot-and-mouth disease vaccine in the country. To discuss this resource further, we will present an interview given by Carlos Goulart, Secretary of Agricultural Defense of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, to Nathália Fernandes, coordinator of the intelligence unit of the Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil. Carlos explains how traceability works and its importance for Brazilian livestock farming.
