THE SLOVAK DIARY - Episode 5: Zelene Pleso

The next day, we didn’t waste any time and started early, as usual. We were about to embark on yet another beautiful destination: Zelene Pleso (Green Lake), nestled in the High Tatras. I must say, this was definitely the highlight of our entire trip. I had been dreaming of visiting this place since last year, but the plan had to be set aside temporarily. Unless you're willing to walk for three hours, this beauty won’t reveal itself. The trail has a moderate, gradual incline that may appear flat at first, but the rocky terrain made the climb quite challenging. Accompanying us along the way was a stream called Biela Voda, named for its crystal-clear water and white, foamy bubbles. I couldn’t help but stop several times to take it all in—mesmerised by the sight and soothed by the calming, gushing sound of the water. It was so peaceful and refreshing that I felt energised as we continued our hike. Finally, with much anticipation, we arrived at our destination. And there it was—like something out of a fairy tale, except this one was real… and I was in it. The small emerald lake, cradled by towering mountains as a breathtaking backdrop, was simply magical. In the distance, a waterfall cascaded down the cliffs, beckoning us to come closer. The stream on one side of the lake flowed down, welcoming visitors along the trail like an entourage to its maiden. Although every meeting must come to an end, the beauty of this place will be forever etched in my mind.
