In 1991, Vincenzo Aiutino, a 21-year-old sex offender, was suspected of murdering two young women in Longwy, Lorraine. But due to a lack of evidence, the police released him. The following year, another disappearance led directly to Aiutino. The young man fled to Belgium, where he was eventually arrested. In 1998, the Nancy Assize Court sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum term of eighteen years.
