Spartacus and the Slave Rebellion 73-71 BC - The History
Today we take a look at the evidence for the Slave Rebellion led by Spartacus. What began as a breakout by gladiators from a training school in Capua turned into by far the most serious slave rebellion in Rome's history, as successive Roman armies were routed. Yet the evidence is poor, so how much can we really know about Spartacus and the events of 73-71 BC. For further reading, Barry Strauss, The Spartacus War is an excellent place to start.
