Video Title 🎥: 🚇 LEONARDO 5004 on Line 🟢 M2 from GARIBALDI FS to CADORNA FN 🟢 M2 🟢: GARIBALDI FS The M2 line station was inaugurated on July 12, 1971, as the terminus of the line from Centrale FS; this made Porta Garibaldi station the fourth Milanese railway station connected to the metro, after Cadorna, Lambrate, and Centrale. It served as the western terminus until March 3, 1978, when the first trains were able to travel along the new line to Cadorna FN. On July 16, 2007, following the approval in 2006 of the project for the construction of the M5 line, work began on the first section, which also included the Garibaldi FS station. In 2008, the M2 station underwent a renovation that resulted in a complete redesign of its interiors. This renovation was part of a larger ATM project to renovate several metro stations, which was later abandoned, with the exception of Loreto station, where work was completed, albeit with a longer delay. The M5 station was originally scheduled to open in December 2013, but its opening was first postponed to January 2014 and finally to March 1 of the same year, when it replaced Zara as the southern terminus of the purple line. It remained the terminus until 2015, when the line was permanently extended to San Siro Stadium. With the opening of the M5 station, Porta Garibaldi became, after Cadorna and Centrale, the third railway station in Milan served by two metro lines. 🟢 M2 🟢: CADORNA FN The M2 station, the terminus of the extension from Garibaldi, was opened on March 3, 1978, making Cadorna the second interchange station between two lines of the Milan metro network to be built after Loreto, also a junction between M1 and M2. Work began in 1972 and was supposed to be completed within three years, but the section of tunnel near Cadorna FN was not completed due to an incorrect design calculation. Rectifying this serious error was a costly operation, which delayed completion of the project by three years. It remained the terminus of the M2 until October 30, 1983, when the extension to Porta Genova FS was opened. The M2 line returned to its temporary terminus on July 19, 2025, for trains arriving from Piazza Abbiategrasso and Assago Forum, following track renovation work along the section from Cadorna to Garibaldi FS. The work was completed on September 7, and the line resumed regular operations the following day, September 8, 2025, as scheduled. The station has a total of four tracks, two for the M1 line and two for the M2 line. In both cases, the two pairs of tracks are served by two side platforms, forming a "fan-shaped" structure.
