Situation at Gold One mine 'remains critical'
Modder East Gold One mine’s legal head Ziyaad Hassan says the situation underground remains critical. It's believed that contractors and managers are being kept against their will. Over 400 miners have been underground for four days now. Hassan says eight people were released yesterday evening with one of them in hospital. There have also been reports that supplies are running low. This is the second sit-in at the operation after workers demanded that AMCU be accepted as a recognised union in October. This time around, workers are also protesting against the dismissal of more than 50 of their colleagues who were axed in connection with the first sit-in.
