As we approach the Summer Retreat, we hope this will be a blessed time for you to engrave in your hearts the guidance of the Triune God, the sovereign Lord of the Gospel, and the earnest spiritual cries of the lost souls around us. JBCH [Sermon Summary] 1. The Sovereign Intervention of the Holy Spirit and the Path of the Gospel "At night a vision appeared to Paul: a man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, 'Come over to Macedonia and help us.'" (Acts 16:9) During his second missionary journey, the Apostle Paul desired to preach in the region of Asia, but the Holy Spirit and the Spirit of Jesus strongly blocked that path. Then, upon entering, He caused him to see a vision of the Macedonian man and guided his steps toward Europe. In this way, the opening and closing of the doors of the Gospel are entirely within God's sovereign intervention. We must entrust all our plans to Jehovah God, who meticulously guides the steps of our lives and opens the doors of evangelism. 2. The Proactive Work of Salvation by the Triune God In the short passage of Acts chapter 16, God the Holy Spirit (verse 6), the Spirit of Jesus (verse 7), and God the Father (verse 10) are all mentioned. The work of saving and reviving souls is the proactive, united work of the Triune God: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We are merely instruments used in that holy work. The history of countless souls being born again and the church becoming steadfast through the annual Winter and Summer Retreats is not a coincidence, but evidence of the perfect guidance of the invisible Holy Spirit. 3. "Come Over and Help Us": Eyes That See the Cry of Souls The Greek etymology of the word "help" carries the meaning of "hearing a cry and running to help." Even if the unbelievers, family, and friends around us outwardly resist and oppose the Gospel, the core of their souls is desperately crying out for the hand of salvation. We must possess spiritual eyes capable of seeing not the outward appearance, but the desperation and hunger of souls heading toward destruction. 4. Responsibility and Unity as Debtors to the Gospel "But I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile." (Romans 1:16) Just as Paul confessed that he was indebted to the gospel, we, who have been saved by the sacrifice of the only begotten Son on the cross, are also indebted to the gospel. The Lord entrusted the gospel to us because He has a plan for us to share it with those around us. Ahead of the summer retreat, we must partner in prayer for souls, earnestly pray for the opening of doors for evangelism, and dedicate ourselves and unite in our respective positions. I hope to be fully used in the work of rescuing dying souls through the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth and the gospel of life that is within me. *Responsibility and Unity as Debtors to the Gospel* [Scripture] The Spirit prevented them from preaching the word in Asia. So they traveled through Phrygia and Galatia, and when they came to Mysia, they tried to go toward Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them. So they passed Mysia and went down to Troas. At night a vision appeared to Paul: a man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” When Paul saw this vision, we immediately made efforts to leave for Macedonia, because we recognized that God had called us to preach the gospel to those people. (Acts 16:6-10) For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever and ever. Amen. (Romans 11:36) In Christ we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins, through his blood, according to the riches of his grace. (Eph. 1:7) Jesus said to them, “My Father has been working until now, and I also am working.” (John 5:17) O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself, nor is it in man who walks to direct his steps. (Jeremiah 10:23) A man may plan his way in his heart, but the Lord directs his steps. (Proverbs 16:9) I am a debtor to both Greeks and barbarians, to both the wise and the fools. Therefore, I want to preach the gospel to you also in Rome, as far as I am able. (Romans 1:14-15)
