Me: “I Haven't Slept in 48 Hours.” | The Dark Reality of a Japanese Salaryman’s Weekend

Two almost-all-nighters for one bowl of udon. I’m Hiro—a tenth-year college student in Osaka and your chronically tired friend—spending a “weekend off” that turns into tsukemen philosophy, a 150km road trip for udon, and karaoke at dawn. In this vlog I: 🧹 Start a lazy Saturday by finally cleaning up the trash pile that’s been building up all week… and immediately abandon responsibility for food 🍜 Go to Mita Seimenjo for my usual spicy tsukemen, then spiral into a mini life rant about “meaningful” vs “meaningless” happiness while washing it down with sake 🎸 Head out at golden hour to see my usual band live, then meet my friend Koba (visiting from Tokyo) and dive into a salaryman-style night out in Umeda 🍶 Drink until 5 a.m. between my regular izakaya and a “salaryman playground,” then collapse for a stealth-filmed nap next to Koba 🚗 Wake up still half-drunk, fold up the futon, and hop into a red Mazda 3 rental—driving from Osaka toward Takamatsu in Kagawa, Japan’s holy land of udon 🌉 Cross the giant Akashi Kaikyō Bridge, stop at a highway “oasis” with a Ferris wheel and Starbucks, and play otokogi janken (“manly rock–paper–scissors”) to decide who has to pay for everyone’s drinks 🌊 Make a detour at the Ōnaruto Bridge to (kind of) see the famous whirlpools, and ramble about maybe one day hosting a “real Osaka” tour for viewers—even though I can’t speak English 🍤 Arrive at legendary udon shop Yamada-ya: walk through the massive gate and garden, sit on tatami, and order bukkake udon with tempura that’s so good it could probably make roadside weeds taste amazing 🌅 Drive the 150km back to Osaka at sunset, talk about how ordinary evening skies suddenly feel emotional as you get older, and explain Japan’s toll highways & ETC system 🍻 Drop off the rental car and go straight to my regular izakaya Megane for drinks, an absurdly long mentaiko rolled omelet, fries, fried garlic, and pizza—fully enjoying “adult mode” 🎤 Finish the night (and my stamina) at karaoke with more food: deep-fried gyoza skins with cream cheese, cod milt with ponzu, fried shrimp—the standard all-nighter course—before my friends keep drinking into the next night Food, friends, and questionable decisions—the usual mix of exhaustion and oddly bright hope.
