Wheat starch paste has been used since antiquity to mount scrolls in China and Japan and is still used by paper conservators and printmakers around the world today due to its excellent archival qualities (like being 100% reversible with water and never yellowing or embrittling with age.) This paste is not only for hinging artwork in framing and scroll mounting but is also a useful studio tool in making collage and chine collé.
