Never thought we would be doing this! - Looking after 100+ fruit trees in our 20's
If you had told us 3 years ago that we would be living on a piece of offgrid farmland among the mountains of South Africa maintaining a fruit orchard of over 100 trees we would have had a hard time believing it…. But here we are and loving the learning process. With no experience or background in farming we have set up an irrigation system to water each individual tree. Our property is just under half a hectare with over 100 different fruiting trees we have lots of citrus being the Naartjies, Oranges, Kumquats, Lemons and more as well as the stone fruits being Pears, Mangos, Guavas, Peaches and a few others. We do our first harvest of 2026 picking a basket full of pears of different varieties. We also harvest the first fruits off our Mango tree ever! We do a test run to see how the mangos will ripen if it is best to pick them green and let them ripen in the dark or if we should let them ripen on the trees… time will tell! We add a new nut tree to the orchard, a Peacan nut tree that will grow big one day creating a lovely spot to sit in the shade on the grass enjoying the mountain views we live among. Let this be your reminder that you can make a change in life, you don’t have to know what you are doing you just have to go for it! We hope you enjoyed a look into a simple task on the homestead checking up on our irrigation system and picking organic fruit. Make sure to subscribe, it’s free to do so and makes sure our videos pop up next time! Leave a comment to let us know your thought or if you have any tips & tricks for our fruit trees. 0:00 - 1:16 - Intro :) 1:16 - 7:54 - Installing new droppers 7:54 - 12:52 - Update on our fruit trees 12:52 - 19:21 - First Pear & Papple Harvest 19:21 - 22:43 - Our Mango Trees 22:43 - 24:03 - First Grape Harvest 24:03 - 25:59 - Planting a new tree 25:59 - 26:52 - Outro :) Starting an orchard in South Africa with no farming experience, Living off-grid in South African mountains with a fruit orchard, How to set up irrigation for 100+ fruit trees, First harvest of pears and mangos on newbie farm, Guide to growing citrus and stone fruits off-grid, Experimenting with best mango ripening methods, Planting a Pecan tree in our South African orchard, Organic fruit picking in our South African homestead, What it's like to manage over 100 fruit trees, Our journey to self-sufficiency in South Africa, Year-round fruit farming on under half a hectare, New farmer's first time fruit harvest 2026, Tips for starting your own orchard with no prior experience, Off-grid living and fruit farming in South Africa, Tour of our South African orchard and new Pecan tree plant #homestead #gardening #fruit #harvest
