【旧日光街道 徒歩旅】日本橋から日光へ144kmの第一歩！江戸の活気と千住宿に続く歴史の道

Today, this road is often called the Old Nikko Kaido, but during the Edo period, it was known as Nikko Dochu, one of Japan’s Five Highways. The route stretches about 144 km from Nihonbashi in Tokyo to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, with 21 post towns along the way. This is the first episode of the series. In this episode, I walk from Nihonbashi, the starting point of the route, to Senju-shuku, the first post town on the Nikko Dochu. Along the way, I follow the old road and visit historic places connected to Edo-period travel and history, including long-established shops around Nihonbashi, Jisshi Park, the former Tenma-cho prison site, the final place of Yoshida Shoin, the Kozukappara execution grounds, Kubikiri Jizo, Ekoin Temple, Susanoo Shrine, Senju Ohashi Bridge, and the streets of Senju-shuku.
