【旧日光街道 徒歩旅】ついに日光東照宮へ！日光杉並木を抜けて旅は完結へ

Today, this road is often called the “Old Nikko Kaido,” but during the Edo period, it was known as the “Nikko Dochu,” one of the Five Highways of Japan. Along the approximately 144-kilometer route from Nihonbashi to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, there were 21 post towns. This is Episode 8 of my walking journey along the Old Nikko Kaido. In this episode, I resume from the point just before entering Nikko City, where the previous episode ended, and continue through the Nikko Cedar Avenue, Imaichi, and Shinkyo Bridge, before finally reaching the destination of this journey: Nikko Toshogu Shrine. At last, I arrive at Nikko Toshogu Shrine, the goal of this Old Nikko Kaido walking journey. Unfortunately, by the time I arrived, the visiting hours had already ended, so I was not able to enter the shrine grounds on that day. Still, the journey on foot from Edo Nihonbashi to Nikko Toshogu reaches its goal here. In the second half of the video, I also introduce the grounds of Nikko Toshogu Shrine, filmed on a separate day. I visit the First Torii Gate, the Five-story Pagoda, the Front Gate, the Three Wise Monkeys at the Sacred Stable, the Bronze Torii Gate, Yomeimon Gate, Karamon Gate, the Sleeping Cat, Okumiya, and the Okusha Hoto, which is said to be the grave site of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Together with the lingering feeling of having reached this place on foot, I walk through Nikko Toshogu Shrine, the final destination of the Old Nikko Kaido. From Edo to Nikko. A long journey traced step by step on foot along the Old Nikko Kaido. With this episode, the journey finally comes to an end.
