Lilliputters Tour of Yorkshire 2024 - Day 6
00:00 Huntington 08:18 Strensall 11:42 Easingwold 19:09 Kilburn Our penultimate day of tour saw us heading north of York. Our first tower was Huntington, a light and old sounding 8 - not the most tuneful, a tad oddstruck but very ring-able and productive bells - very clear inside and ideal for a striking competition. Ringing consisted of a touch attempt of Bob Triples, coming to grief after the first single ;-), a fine attempt at forwards backwards rounds plus Stedman Triples. Placing the camera by the fan perhaps wasn't the best call...! Moving on the Strensall, our second venue - some of us resorted to a quick grab and out, whilst others preferred a bit more of an in depth ring as well. They are a little 6, long ropes, very small ringing room and not much ventilation apart from the tower staircase. They sound very lovely, easy to get some decent ringing out of. Something about the treble which was a bit shrill. Ringing featured here was a fine raise and last part of a plain course of Bob Minor. We decided to split for lunch, taking in some of the vast countryside and lovely scenery en-route to Easingwold and some of course opting for a swift pint or two beforehand. Easy walking and church grabbing for a Maidstone ringer or two! The arrival of the Bagleys allowed us to ring some Cambridge and Bristol (featured) - a good quality of ringing. However, the back 6 sounded better on whole than all 8; the augmented bells not really matching the rest and they never seemed to jell that well. Our final tower of the day was Kilburn, set again in some great scenery and somewhere where you could easily go for long walks with a holiday home and decent pub not far away. Kilburn has a fine ring of 3, which could easily be augmented to form a very decent 6, there is room for them. A variety of singles methods was attempted; plain hunt on 2 and Titanic is featured (luckily it didn't cinque/sink mid way through the touch, nor did we ring 1913 changes of it)! A trip to the White Horse was on the cards, though I think we'll save that for next time!
