Dyepot Weekly #42 - Overdyeing Broken Violet Sock Yarn with a Jacquard Black Acid Dye Dry Rub

Rubbing dye onto dry yarn creates a wonderful random effect. I love this "dry rub" and wanted to see how well it would as an overdyeing technique. First, I dip dyed some KnitPicks stroll sock yarn http://shrsl.com/vqxy into Wilton's violet food coloring to create our signature broken violet gradient. (Affiliate Link) Next, I used some Jacquard Jet Black dye to rub onto this gradient to add a new dimension of color. Watch the video to see how this yarn came together! Video Contents [0:00] Introduction. Presoaked yarn in tap water. Mixing 1/2 tsp Wilton's violet acid color in 1/2 cup of water. [1:08] The dyebath - 8 cups of water + 1 T white vinegar [1:42] Dip dyeing the yarn into Wilton's violet [3:31] After 5 min, remvoing the yarn from the dyebath. I washed the yarn off camera [4:41] Preparing for the dry rub with the dry Wilton's violet yarn [5:08] mixing the black dyes - 1 tsp white vinegar + 1/3 cup of a 1% sock solution of Jacquard Jet Black acid dye.
