Barima Disaster Survivor Speaks Out: A Mother's Harrowing Story

A mother who survived the MV Barima disaster is still waiting for news of her two young sons, aged 13 and 9, who remain missing. Speaking exclusively with Credible Sources at the Essequibo Technical Institute (ETI) in Anna Regina, the survivor recounts the terrifying moments when passengers were alerted that the vessel was taking in water, how she became separated from her children, and how she survived hours in the water before being rescued by a fishing vessel. She also shares her personal recollection of the events leading up to the tragedy, including what she observed aboard the MV Barima and the desperate struggle to survive after the vessel capsized. These are her firsthand observations and should be considered alongside the ongoing official investigation, which will determine the cause of the disaster. Credible Sources remains on the ground providing verified updates as the search-and-rescue effort continues. We extend our deepest condolences to every family affected by this national tragedy and our sincere gratitude to the first responders, medical personnel, volunteers and all those working tirelessly in the rescue and recovery operation.
