Orkney's Renewable Stories - Woodwick Mill
Businesses across Orkney have been embracing renewable energy over recent years, helping to keep both running costs and carbon emissions down. We've been exploring some of the local renewable stories to find out more. The renovation of Orkney's Woodwick Mill was a labour of love for Micky and Liz Austin. The once-grand 19th century building was derelict and abandoned, but civil engineer Micky could see its potential. The mill sits next to the Woodwick burn, with a dam upstream. It was the possibility of harnessing these natural assets to provide green energy that saw Micky and Liz launch the mammoth task of bringing the building back to life.
