And it's no coincidence that it's a Coupé SUV with high-end C-segment dimensions. It needs to appeal to the tastes of a struggling Old Continent. Its launch in Munich is clearly no coincidence. And yet, beyond the aesthetics and the first look in person, beyond that body designed by the team of Juan Ma Lopez, former Ferrari exterior design director, there's theoretically a lot of substance for such a means of transport: the new SEPA 3.0 "One Car Dual Energy" platform, which allows both the pure electric (BEV) version and the one with a range extender, dubbed the L03 Power X, to be offered on the same platform. But beyond that, it's above all a symbol of the challenge that China, and in this case XPeng, is posing to the entire world: bringing the proprietary Turing chip and NGP intelligent driving—the same brains behind the group's robotaxis and humanoid robots—to an affordable car. Will it be so? Here's what I saw here in Munich. The Xpeng L03 is based on the SEPA 3.0 platform, designed from the outset to accommodate two types of powertrain within the same chassis: pure electric (BEV) and range-extender (EREV). The electric version features a rear-mounted motor with 183 kW (249 hp) and 280 Nm of torque, powered by LFP batteries supplied by CALB in two capacities: 56 and 69 kWh. With the larger battery, the WLTP-certified range is 440 km, 0-100 km/h is achieved in 6.6 seconds, and the declared fuel consumption is 15.3 kWh/100 km. DC charging has a value that, I must say, is surprising. It accepts up to about 207 kW and allows you to go from 10 to 80% in 20 minutes. The surprise comes not so much from the 400-volt platform, but from the battery chemistry—Lithium Iron Phosphate—which usually accepts lower charging powers.
