First broadcast in Masterworks: Six Pieces of Britain on BBC Two England, 24 July 1999 at 18.15 William Walton's dramatic choral work Belshazzar's Feast, composed in 1931, draws on the dual traditions of northern choral societies and brass bands. Contributors discussing the piece of work and its composer's musical influences include Walton's wife Susanna, and bass-baritone Willard White. White joins the Leeds Festival Chorus and the BBC Symphony Chorus and Orchestra conducted by Andrew Davis in a performance of the piece at the venue - Leeds Town Hall - where it was premiered.
