Gustav Holst: A Double Life in Music
All images in this film were reproduced with permission from: Holst Birthplace Trust The Cheltenham Trust Cheltenham Borough Council Britten Pears Arts The Neil Arthur Williams Holst/Cossart Collection Tony Palmer John Petley-Jones This documentary was a project started in 2020 with the intention of editing an unfinished film made between 1976 and 1977. The original producers, John Davie and Tony Richards, went to the effort to interview some important people who knew Holst personally. The documentary has interviews including Imogen Holst, Edmund Rubbra, Herbert Howells and Michael Tippett as well as testimonials from several students of Holst. This documentary brings together several incredible memories that give us a glimpse of the man beyond the composer. Forgive me for the quality of the footage, I tried unsuccessfully to make a dignified restoration, but this project was done with dedication and love for Holst's music and life. Happy Birthday Gustav!
