PORTO - Exploring the city - part 2
Dear friends, welcome back and thank you once again from the deep of my heart for the closeness you are showing me in this difficult period of my life. To new visitors, welcome to my channel! In this second video of the series on Porto, we explore together other beauties of this city that really struck me for its unique atmosphere. First we will go up the Finicular dos Guindais, the funicular that in a few minutes, from Ribeira, the historic central district that I showed you in the first video, takes you to the upper city, in the Batalha district. The views of the Dom Luiz I bridge from this perspective are fantastic.... Then we will visit what was perhaps the Church that struck me most in Porto. The Church of Santa Clara, a wonderful example in Baroque style of the particular technique called "talha dorada", which involves engraving the wood and then gilding it. The interior of this Church is nothing short of amazing. Then we find ourselves always in the charming neighborhood of Batalha, in the direction of the Sant'Ildefonso Church, another incredible Catholic place of worship of unique beauty, with its bell towers and decorations with azulejos. Here we arrive at the Terreiro da Sè, a splendid square surrounded by beautiful buildings among which the extraordinary Cathedral of Porto (the Sé), in Romanesque style, stands out. This incredible work is almost a fortress Cathedral that dominates the city and is visible from every side. The cloister is a very fine work decorated with azulejos, as we often see throughout Porto. Not far from the Torre dos Clerigos that I showed you in the first video, we find two other wonderful Churches, apparently merged, but in reality separated by what is the narrowest house in the city, called Casa Escondida (Hidden House). The Church of do Carmo, on the right and the Church of dos Carmelitas, on the left, both with wonderful interiors. The Church of do Carmo has the longest wall covered by azulejos of the entire city. Then we will walk along the beautiful and lively Rua Santa Catarina, along which we will encounter another gem of Porto's religious heritage, the Capela das Almas (Chapel of Souls), entirely covered on the outside with azulejos. An extraordinary sight. Then we will immerse ourselves for a moment in the historic covered market of Bolhao, recently renovated, the ideal place to find and also taste local delicacies on the spot. Definitely recommended! Then we will return to the lower part through the Escadas do Codecal, one of the picturesque stairways that characterize Porto, with magnificent views, where you can truly breathe the popular and authentic atmosphere of this incredible city. And then we will conclude with some views of Porto at sunset and in the evening, to admire its indisputable charm. I hope that you also like this second video of Porto and that it will make you want to visit this fantastic city that knows how to capture your heart with its magic. A big hug from Milan and stay healthy. Renata
