Vanilla P4 was an enjoyable experience, but I just could not shake the feeling that it felt like it was missing a lot. When I played Persona 4 Golden as it came out on Steam in 2020, my suspicion was proven right. Vanilla Persona 4 largely just played like a simplified version of Persona 3 without much expansion on what P3 established. P4G provided a much better evolution of the modern Persona formula. Atlus re-releases can be a bit controversial as a business practice, but the re-release games themselves can vary in quality. Persona 4 Golden is one of the cases where I'd say it's better than the original release. In this video, I will discuss the design choices I didn't quite agree with in the original Persona 4, and how Golden fixed these problems in particular. Persona 4 PS2 does have its strengths over Persona 4 Golden though, and I will be highlighting those as well.
