Pink Floyd - 4th November 1973 (Late) (Live at Rainbow Theatre) - Definitive Edition

Happy 50th Anniversary to my favourite 1973 show! What a solid performance all round for TDSOTM suite as well as Obscured By Clouds and When You're In. Here is one of my latest projects for you all to enjoy: both recordings matrixed for a much more full sound, with some mastering on top by Blob. I hope you all enjoy this project, and if you have any requests (years, eras, specific dates, etc.) let me know and I will try to upload it! Thanks to all those involved! Stay tuned ;) O. Source: "Reeling In Pink Floyd "DVD 4 - Tape 13 Lineage: cass[low] to DAT@48khz to wav to shn@48khz to Wav to ACL14 to Wav44 to CDWave to Flac Objective was to use the channel with the best SQ, level a very large number of volume fluctuations, repair drop outs/downs, remove many distortions/crackles, as well as other targeted modifications. This recorder/source contained hundreds of volume fluctuations with the left channel having the most severe fluctuations and drop outs/downs. Also, the left channel had a much higher hiss level. These fluctuations and difference in channel quality sort of obscured the fact that this was a mono recording. When you zoomed in on the waveform throughout, you could see that regardless of the level differences, the channels were identical. I went through the show and compared many segments and determined that the right channel, overall had better SQ and fewer and less extreme volume fluctuations. So with the exception of a few dropouts and the last 1:40 of track14, I used the right channel for both channels. A bit over a minute into track14-WYI, there is a 40 second segment of severe volume fluctuations. This small portion was divided into over 100 sections in order to level it out. The amount of increase at times required the use of the upper end of the EQ to remove some background noise in order to make the transitions transparent. Its still a bit chunky, but much much better than it was. Manually removed a large number of distortions/crackles. I used a very modest amount of PEQ on selected parts. Almost all were between 1-2db. A line of noise around 15.7k could indicate a HI-FI gen. I diminished it some. Lineage - Source Files to REAPER (Syncing and Mastering) to 16 bit WAV (Untracked) Notes: Ello there, and welcome to one of my latest projects that me and Blob have worked on together for you all to enjoy: "When You're In The Rainbow". Rec 1 is the Primary source. It has been mastered by Blob with EQ, automation, and more. Rec 2 is speed corrected to Rec 1 with values between -20 and +24 cents. It has also been by Blob with EQ and more. Blob has mastered the final mix with both of these recordings combined. Big thanks to him for helping to get these recordings in a better shape than I could (Recorder 1 had some serious levelling issues!) Although there are better sources for Recorder 1 out there, I thought it would be best to still get this version out for all to hear the enhanced stereo field this mix brings. When the time is right, a Rev A will hopefully come! Enjoy and Cheerio! Ello_Guvner 2023-11-04 Additional notes and lossless release coming soon! Quad mix as well perhaps? ;)
