More VIA Rail F40PH-2s Running Freight
Ahhh, these are the consists you just don't see anymore. Back in the crazy 90s, however, anything was game at any time. CP Rail had leased several sets of F40PH-2 locomotives from VIA Rail to help the power-starved railway get horsepower on the point of their trains. The first clip is F40PH-2s 6456 and 6455 teamed up with a battered, heavily-weathered MLW M-636 4734 that had been literally pulled back from retirement and pressed back into service. Try running this consist at the next model railway show and see whose eyebrows come right off their face. (Interesting overdimensional load on the first two flat cars, too.) The second clip sees 6448 and 6450 bracketing a pair of leased HATX units, no's 175 and 500, in an all-EMD group running a container train east to Montreal. Lastly, a lone VIA unit, 6454, sits glumly in the yard behind CP SD40-2 5905 and leased HLCX GP40 662. Perhaps if the VIA unit were leading the group, it would look more proper...... All clips were shot in Smiths Falls, Ontario, in 1994.
