The System is Destroying your Mind

We’re all a little f*cked. The system has made us this way. It’s widely known there is a mental health crisis unfolding in the developed world. Hyper capitalism and burnout culture have pushed our mental capacities overdrive. In this video essay, I will be analyzing the far-reaching effects of late-stage capitalism and the havoc it has wreaked on our minds. I’ll be exploring the ideas posited by two leading cultural theorists: Mark Fisher and Byung Chul Han. As well as the work of Gabor Mate, Chris Hedges and Alain Ehrenberg. Exploring their ideas, such as: Capitalist Realism, Business Ontology, Depressive Hedonia, The Burnout Society and the Achievement society and how they coalesce to f*ck our sense of self and how the system and trauma are locked in an intentional interplay to keep you downtrodden. Our culture is one defined by mass anxieties, perfectionism, status, consumption and depression. Why is this the norm? How does an economic system unbalance our mental capacities so much? And most importantly - will it always be like this?
