Klee, Macke, and Marc visited their French colleague in his Paris studio in 1912, admiring his innovative color technique, which resonated in the German artists' work. The film explores debates about new concepts of color and form, correspondence, and friendships. In 1913, all four artists participated in a major exhibition of the international avant-garde in Berlin—a spirit of optimism prevailed, but it was also the last hopeful encounter before the First World War.
