Faroe Islands & Iceland | Kallur Lighthouse, Sheep Feeding & Remote Island Life | May 2026
Eight days in the Faroe Islands: remote, dramatic, and quietly unforgettable. Hikes, ferries, tiny island side quests, and SO MANY SHEEP. We stopped in Iceland (Sky Lagoon, an apartment in Reykjavík, Einstök) and then flew to the Faroes for a week. Sheep feeding at the largest farm on the islands, one night in a 110-year-old yellow house on Suðuroy, a 4-hour tour at Föroya Bjór (founded 1888, still family owned), Klakkur hiked twice in one day, and two nights on Kalsoy Island. The fish stew at the pig was phenomenal. Early bus to KEF in the morning. Day 2: Arriving in the Faroe Islands. Propeller plane into Vágar, rental car, and immediately understood what people mean when they say this place doesn't look real. Highland cows, tunnels through mountains, sheep everywhere. Hike out to Múlafossur Waterfall in Gásadalur, then into Tórshavn to check into Hotel Føroyar with turf-covered rooms over the fjord. Dinner at Katrina Christiansen in the old town lasted all night. Day 3: Morning drive to Saksun for the sheep feeding with Sonja at Dúvugarðar, the largest farm in the Faroe Islands. Nine herds, lambs only days old, sheep running down from the mountains. Visited the Dúvugarðar Saksun Heritage Farm afterward. Lunch at Hotel Føroyar, then the afternoon on foot through the old town: Skansin Lighthouse, beers at Mikkeller Tórshavn, cheese plate and coffee at Paname Café, attached to the oldest bookshop in the Faroe Islands. Day 4: Paname Café + Ferry to Suðuroy.Coffee at Paname Café, then the ferry south to Suðuroy through rough North Atlantic seas. Night in a 110-year-old yellow house on the water in Tvøroyri. Hiked up the mountain in sideways rain, found a pizza place that doesn't exist on Google Maps, watched whitecaps from the window. Day 5: Suðuroy + Tórshavn + Klaksvík.Pastries before the ferry back north. Lunch at Moss in Tórshavn. Then north through undersea tunnels to Klaksvík and the newly renovated red Cozy Cabin. Day 6: Full Day in Klaksvík.Klakkur hike in the morning, completely fogged in at the top. Lunch at Kafé Fríða. Four-hour tour at Föroya Bjór, the oldest brewery in the Faroes. Clear skies by evening, so we hiked Klakkur again. Day 7: Coffee and pastries in Fuglafjørður, final lunch at Kafé Fríða, then the small car ferry to Kalsoy. Three narrow mountain tunnels, out to the village of Mikladalur, and a cliffside cabin above the Seal Woman statue. Immediately headed out for the hike from Trøllanes to Kallur Lighthouse: narrow ridgeline to the tip of the island, completely alone, cliff views on both sides, James Bond gravestone along the way. Thai food at the farm café, then listening to the waterfall outside the cabin. Day 8: Relax Day,Seal Woman, rocks, puffins soaring around the cliffs. Cheese, crackers, and staring out the giant windows at the ocean. A necessary reset before trekking home through Iceland. ----------------------------------------------- Subscribe for more travel adventures! ✈️ @OurOwnPath Travel & Website (guides, tips, itineraries): https://www.ourownpathtravel.com Instagram: / ourownpathtravel ----------------------------------------------- Important Links and Additional Information Sky Lagoon: https://www.skylagoon.com Hotel Føroyar: https://www.hotelforoyar.com Dúvugarðar Saksun Heritage Farm: https://duvugardur.fo Katrina Christiansen: / katrinachristiansen Mikkeller Tórshavn: https://mikkeller.com/pages/torshavn Föroya Bjór Brewery Tour: https://www.foroya-bjoer.fo Kafé Fríða: / kafefridafaroe Fiskastykkið: https://fiskastykkid.fo Moss Restaurant: https://www.mossrestaurant.fo Paname Café: / panamecafefaroe ----------------------------------------------- 00:00 Faroe Islands 00:35 Iceland 00:40 Sky Lagoon 01:33 Vintage Apartment Rental 01:43 Einstöck 03:08 Faroe Islands 03:31 Fiskastykkid 03:48 Highland Cows 04:20 Múlafossur 05:39 Hotel Føroyar 05:58 Katrina Christiansen 07:30 Dúvugarðar Shepherd’s Tour SHEEP 11:33 Tórshavn 12:03 Mikkeller Tórshavn 12:17 Skansin Lighthouse 12:49 Panama Café & Bookshop 13:45 Ferry to Suðuroy 14:41 The Yellow House Rental 14:57 Tvøroyri 17:49 Red Cosy Cottage Rental 18:02 Klaksvík 18:51 Walking to Klakkur Hike 21:33 Kafé Fríða 22:12 Føroya Bjór Tour 24:31 Fuglafjørður 25:17 Ferry to Kalsoy Island 26:30 The Seal Woman 27:26 Trøllanes Hike 28:14 James Bond Tombstone 29:27 Kallur Lighthouse 31:39 House by the Sea Rental
