VN24 - 22-08-2023 (D/M/Y) - Schwerte-Ruhr / Germany - A workboat sank on the Ruhr River during the night, initially unnoticed. Only a few meters before a weir in Schwerte-Westhofen, employees had discovered the about 5 meters long and 1.6 tons heavy open workboat half under a flotsam deflector in the morning. Apparently, the steel workboat moored there the day before, which can be equipped with various hydraulic attachments and can thus also be used as a mowing boat for underwater plants, had been pushed down by the strong current, filled up with water and sank. The water pressure then pressed it half under the floating structure of the flotsam deflector. A local crane contractor had to move in with heavy equipment and a mobile crane to recover the casualty from a distance of over 55 meters.
