Essence Festival Backlash Continues As Black Americans Stand Their Ground

Why are some Africans upset that Black Americans are boycotting Essence Festival? In this video, I share my perspective as an African watching the ongoing debate around Essence Festival, Black American culture, and the recent boycott movement. From what I’ve seen, many Black Americans are not saying they dislike Africans or don’t want other members of the African diaspora involved. Instead, many are arguing that Essence Festival was built around Black American culture and that the culture that made the festival successful should not be pushed aside. I also discuss the argument that when Essence was previously owned by others, many supporters felt the festival’s core identity remained intact, and why some believe the real issue today is not ownership, but preserving the original purpose and culture that made Essence Festival one of the most important cultural events in America. Do you think Black Americans are being misunderstood? Has Essence Festival changed too much? Or do you think the criticism is unfair? Let me know your thoughts in the comments. #EssenceFestival #BlackAmericanCulture #FBA #BlackMedia #Commentary #Reaction #Culture #News Fair Use Disclaimer: This video is for commentary, criticism, and news reporting under Section 107 of the Copyright Act.
